(Note Language) Busta Rhymes honored Takeoff with a touching music video for “You Will Never Find Another Me,” but he’d rather give artists their flowers when they’re alive to smell them.
Discussing Takeoff’s tragic death with Billboard, he said he worked with the rapper, Quavo and O.T. Genasis on music while Offset was in jail. When Takeoff passed, he refrained from saying much because he doesn’t like to have too “much conversation about anybody during the tragedy.”
“It almost feels like if the tragedy didn’t happen, we wouldn’t have to talk about our camaraderie,” he said. “That’s something that I think we should start changing.”
“It’s a little f***** up to me that in times of crisis, that’s when we all want to acknowledge the existence and the greatness of the ones, when it’s too late,” Busta continued.
He added, “I love my Migos brothers, and I love every moment that I had to experience and cherish with Takeoff and the Migos. Super rest in peace to Takeoff, and love and light to his family and loved ones.”
Elsewhere in the story, Busta gave his “twin sister” Missy Elliott her flowers for the iconic music videos she’s done over the years. As someone who’s also been praised for his visuals, he says he created them by “thinking outside of whatever was considered the norm.”
The last video that impressed him was Kendrick Lamar‘s “The Heart Part 5.” “That video was special, and they set a bar for the new generation when it came to the revolutionary visual impact that me and Missy were always successful at executing. The balance of simplicity and complexity in it is so incredibly powerful, and that’s not an easy balance to find…,” Busta said. “So visually, I’m giving Kendrick the crown.”
