While promoting her new children’s book, Mary Can!, on The Drew Barrymore ShowMary J. Bligereceived a surprise visit from Remy Ma. Accompanied by her 4-year-old daughter, Reminisce Mackenzie, the rapper took some time to praise the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, referring to her as a best friend.

“You know how you meet somebody or aspire to meet somebody, you look up to somebody and then you meet them and it’s just — sometimes, in this industry you meet them and they’re not really what you envisioned them to be?” Remy began. “Not only is she everything that I thought she would be, but she’s, like, past that.”

“Probably eight out of 10 times we see each other we end up crying,” she continued. “But she has that because it’s so real, it’s so authentic and it’s genuine, you feel it, you feel her. You don’t just see her; you feel her.”

Remy discussed the work Mary’s done for her legacy and “the generational impact that she’s had,” noting she’s touched many people, including her daughter, who “keeps playing” Mary’s song “Amazing.”

“I think sometimes we need to hear that,” Remy said. “As human beings, we start to feel, ‘Alright, I made my mark, I did it.’ And she just keeps going.”

Mary Can!, out now, aims to inspire young girls to go after their dreams. It’s based on Mary’s own experiences.

“I was so used to people telling me ‘no’ and that I ‘couldn’t’ which only motivated me more,” she previously wrote on Instagram. “My hope with this book is that it instills in kids from an early age that they can do anything they aspire to do. There are no limits to what they can accomplish!”
