Diana Ross, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys and more pay homage to late Tina Turner with tributes

Tributes are pouring in to honor Tina Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock, who passed away May 24 at the age of 83. After word spread of her death, celebrities, including Erykah BaduQuestloveCiara and Alicia Keys, took to social media to talk about her influence and impact on the culture. 

“Cultural Icon down. Safe Journey Anna Mae Bullock. You were HERE,” Erykah wrote on InstagramQuestlove called her a “survivor,” “the King & Queen” and noted, “She was everything.”

In Ciara’s tribute, she thanked Tina “for the inspiration you gave us all.” Fat Joe reminisced on her clearance of the sample for “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” which he used on his Ashanti-assisted track “What’s Luv?”

Alicia Keys looked back on the day she and Tina met, writing, “I couldn’t believe I was standing in the presence of your greatness!! … The songs you sang gave us courage to step out and be our full selves.” She continued, “You are a fierce force as a woman and a performer!”

Earvin Magic Johnson also paid homage to Tina, saying she “gave one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.” He said she “created the blueprint for other great entertainers like Janet Jackson and Beyoncé,” noting “her legacy will continue on through all high-energy performing artists.”

News of Tina Turner’s death was announced Wednesday via a statement on her socialsGrandmaster Flash, Diana Ross and more have since sent their condolences to Tina’s family.
