Juneteenth: A Global Celebration of Freedom, set to broadcast live from the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California, will be presented by Live Nation Urban and Jesse Collins Entertainment on Sunday, June 19.
In honor of the 157th anniversary of Juneteenth, the federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, many Black stars and entertainers, including Mary Mary, Anthony Hamilton and Jhené Aiko, will perform in the music festival produced by a team of Black creators.
Others featured on the bill include Billy Porter, Killer Mike, Mickey Guyton and The Roots. Roots frontman Questlove will serve as the day’s musical director alongside Adam Blackstone, the instrumentalist known for his work with Nicki Minaj and Justin Timberlake.
Also in attendance will be the 68-piece, all-Black symphony group The Re-Collective Orchestra. The symphony will make history as the first all-Black orchestra to perform on stage in the Hollywood Bowl’s 100-year history.
Regarding the show, Live Nation Urban President Shawn Gee said, “This is the most important event we’ve ever produced at Live Nation Urban. It’s a moment to celebrate and reflect on black independence and the black experience. It’s also a moment to raise awareness and shine light on the miles we still need to travel to true equity. We hope to see you there.”
Tickets for the upcoming Juneteenth festival are currently available online at HollywoodBowl.com.
